Personal Items Stolen From My Car

Many people believe that personal items stolen from their vehicle is covered on their auto insurance policy. This is not the case. Auto policies will cover any damage that may have been caused by the the theft such as a broken window, buy items stolen such as a purse or laptop would actually be covered by their homeowners or rental policy.

Keep this in mind when carrying important items in your vehicle. In my neighborhood, there are lots of thefts from vehicles during the night from vehicles that are left unlocked. The criminals know that they don't need to spend energy and take the risk of breaking out windows to steal from vehicles. Always lock your vehicle and do not leave important items in view, but if you have to leave something in your vehicle then place them in the trunk or under the seat so that it is not in view of the bad guys.
